U.S. convenes counterterrorism forum, sets measures to quell Iran-linked terrorism

The United States Departments of State and Justice said it convened the fifth meeting of the Countering Transnational Terrorism Forum (CTTF) on April 15 and 16 to address ongoing Iran-linked “destabilising activities.”
A statement by the U.S State Department spokesperson on Monday noted that the forum was organised in partnership with the Department of Justice to target ongoing disruptive activities by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), its Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), as well as its proxies and partners.
According to the U.S. Department of State, the counterterrorism forum is a global workshop set up to improve international awareness and coordination against Iran’s terrorism and other criminal activities.
The department said the gathering, held at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA), was attended by thirty-five government authorities from the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
The forum was chaired by the Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of Counterterrorism, Monica Jacobsen.
According to the spokesperson, participants, alongside policymakers and law enforcement, agreed to use available methods to discourage and counter Iran and its allies’ terrorist activities.
“Participants agreed on the need to remain vigilant in the face of these threats and shared actionable strategies on how to leverage all available methods and tactics to effectively disrupt and deter Iran’s terrorist plots and other illicit schemes,” the statement read.
The department disclosed that the forum agreed to use strategies including “curbing terrorist travel, screening visas, pursuing prosecutions, and imposing sanctions and designations” to quell threats posed by Iran and its allies.
