U.S. women pounce on Nigeria’s D’Tigress in final exhibition game

• July 19, 2021

Team USA Women dominated Nigeria’s D’Tigress by 31 points in the final exhibition game before the Olympics start in just over a week.

Amidst the news that sisters Chiney and Nneka Ogwumike were close to being cleared to play for Nigeria in the Olympics, euphoria in camp was at an all time high leading into last exhibition game before the team headed out to the Olympics.

The euphoria did not translate on the court however as D’Tigresses just never got into the game.

The USA women came out guns blazing, looking to take their pound of flesh for the shocking defeat, D’Tigers, Nigeria’s male basketball team, served on their male compatriot days ago.

Nigeria started with Ify Ibekwe, Ezinne Kalu, Adaora Eleonu, Elizabeth Williams and Atonye Nyingifa while the U.S. started a strong side featuring Sue Bird, Jewell Loyd, Breanna Stewart, A’ja Wilson and Brittany Griner.

By halftime, Nigeria was down 55-34 and even though the team had some moments in the second half, the U.S. was just too much and the game ended 93-62.

Nigeria and the U.S. will meet again in the opening group game of the Olympics on Tuesday, July 27.
