The United Arab Emirates (UAE) have intercepted two ballistic missiles fired at Abu Dhabi by Houthi rebels in the early hours of Monday.

Reacting to the incident, the UAE Ministry of Defence said its air defense “has intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles fired by the terrorist Houthi group.”

According to the ministry, “The attack did not result in any casualties, as the remnants of the intercepted and destroyed ballistic missiles fell in separate areas around the Emirate of Abu Dhabi,”

Assuring citizens of their safety, the ministry said it is “ready to deal with any threat and that it takes all necessary measures to protect the state from all attacks.”

This is the second time Yemen’s Houthi rebels would be launching an attack against the UAE.

Last week, the rebels fired a drone at a fuel depot in Abu Dhabi, killing three foreign nationals, leaving six other persons severely injured.

Yahya Saree, Houthi spokesperson, intimated the public that the rebels had plans to “expand their operations over the next phase.”

Mr Saree called on foreign companies to vacate the UAE for their safety.

“We are calling on foreign companies and investors to leave the UAE. It is subject to continuous targeting.” said Mr Saree in a video statement.

Meanwhile, US embassy in Abu Dhabi has implored citizens “to maintain a high level of security awareness” in the wake of these attacks.
