Public Primary and Secondary Schools in Nigeria are set to access digital education courtesy of a partnership between Nigeria and South Korea.

This was disclosed during the signing of an agreement between the Universal Basic Education Commission and the Korea International Corporation Agency.

The project will cost $10 million and will cover the provision of multimedia equipment, training of primary and junior secondary school teachers and education officials.

According to the South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Kim Young-Chae, the 5-year project from 2021-2025 will be fully funded by the Korean government through grant.

Mr Kim said South Korea plans to share its experience of “educating the young people well in order to have international competitiveness,” with Nigeria.

Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, said the Nigerian/Korean Model Schools were a symbol of excellence in the administration of basic education in the country.

Mr Adamu said the plan was to transform Nigeria’s classrooms “from blackboards to digital boards, laptop, desktops devices and leveraging on technology to be able to see how students can have access to knowledge and curricular in new ways.”

In his remark, the Country Director, KOICA, Woochan Chang, said the project was the second phase for the multimedia education project in Nigeria.

The first phase (2017-2019) was help to improve the importation of multimedia tools in teaching and learning in the classroom.

Mr Chang said KOICA’s budget was limited and could only support six states, namely, Lagos, Anambra, Kano, Nasarawa, Bauchi, and Edo.
