Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Ismai Danbaba, a member of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Peoples Gazette learnt.

Mr Danbaba was abducted Saturday evening while embarking on a journey to Jos, Plateau state capital for a conference.

The incident occurred shortly after the lawmaker left a wedding ceremony of his colleague he attended at Keana Local Government Area ( LGA), Nasarawa.

Kabiru Dallah, a resident and National Youth Council Vice President, North Central, confirmed the incident to The Gazette by phone on Sunday afternoon.

Mr Dallah said the lawmaker was abducted while he was returning back to a conference he sneaked out from in Jos to attend a colleague’s wedding in Nasarawa.

“The lawmaker alongside his colleagues left a conference in Jos to honour Honourable Mohammed Salihu Iyimoga who married a second wife yesterday in Keana LGA.

“I don’t know precisely where he was kidnapped but the speaker of the state house of assembly confirmed to me that he was kidnapped on his way back to the conference. In fact, as we speak, his abductors have contacted the state house of assembly,” Mr Dallah said.

Mr Dallah said he cannot verify if the kidnappers have made a demand for a ransom.

AIT reported that the incident occurred in a forest in Sanga LGA of Kaduna State.

However, the report noted that Mohammed Omadefu, Chairman Nasarawa Assembly Committee on Information made the disclosure.

The report cited Mr Omadefu saying that the victim was ambushed and whisked away to an unknown location shortly after he passed Andaha village in Akwanga LGA of Nasarawa.

Several efforts to reach Mr Omadefu on Sunday afternoon were unsuccessful as he did not return multiple calls and messages from The Gazette.

The police spokesman in Kaduna, Mohammed Jalige, when contacted said the incident did not occur in Kaduna. His counterpart, Ramhan Nansel in Nasarawa told The Gazette that the incident occurred in Kaduna and that he cannot comment.
