The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UISU) has disclosed that necessary interstate collaboration is ongoing among relevant security agencies to secure the release of an abducted law student, Tomisin Abolarin.

Ms Abolarin is a 300-level Law student, the national secretary of the SU’s student fellowship in Nigeria and the SU vice-president of the University of Ibadan chapter.

According to a statement on Friday by the UISU president, Temidayo Adeboye, the union disclosed that it promptly informed the university management about the incident upon notice.

Mr Adeboye stated, “The Students’ Union wishes to update the University community regarding the reported case involving a University of Ibadan student who was declared missing while returning to campus.”

“Immediately the matter came to the attention of the Union, the University Management was duly informed, and necessary engagements commenced with relevant stakeholders to facilitate every possible effort towards ensuring the student’s safe return,” he said.

Mr Adeboye said that necessary consultations commenced promptly among relevant security agencies and stakeholders towards effecting the victim’s safe return.

“The University management has continued to liaise with the appropriate security agencies, while engagements have also been established with the national leadership of the Scripture Union to support ongoing efforts and ensure proper coordination throughout the process,” Mr Adeboye said.

Referring to an update he personally received from the Scripture Union leadership, the president said efforts to rescue the student, alongside other delegates of the Scripture Union, are progressing positively.

The union appealed to all concerned students to remain calm, keep the student and her family in their thoughts and prayers, as well as refrain from circulating unverified information that may obstruct ongoing rescue efforts.

The students’ body noted that it was in close communication with the school authorities and other relevant stakeholders, promising to provide verified updates as and when due.

Earlier, the Peoples Gazette reported that eight members of the Scripture Union Nigeria were allegedly kidnapped on Sunday along the boundary between Imo and Anambra states.

The Imo State police command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed that the SU members were abducted and that the police had launched a manhunt for the kidnappers.

“We are aware of the incident. The incident actually happened on Sunday, the 14th of June 2026. But unfortunately, we did not get the information that they were abducted on the 14th of June,” Mr Okoye said at the time.

“We have commenced a thorough investigation in synergy with the Anambra state police command, because this incident happened at the boundary between Imo and Anambra states. There is a discreet investigation ongoing,” it said.
