UK appoints Peter Vowles as new high commissioner to Nigeria

The United Kingdom has announced the appointment of Peter Vowles as the new British High Commissioner to Nigeria.

A statement on Monday by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said Mr Vowles would succeed Richard Montgomery.

“Mr Peter Vowles has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in succession to Dr Richard Montgomery CMG,” the statement said.

Mr Vowles is expected to formally assume duty in September.

“Absolutely delighted to be appointed British High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Mr Vowles tweeted on Tuesday morning.

Mr Vowles previously served as a diplomatic representative to Zimbabwe, country director of the UK Department for International Development (DFID) in Kenya, deputy country director in the Democratic Republic of Congo and head of global partnerships in India, among other top positions.
