The UK foreign office says it has dropped in-person consular assistance in Ukraine, citing the “deteriorating security situation” following Russia’s invasion of the host country.

“The UK Government can no longer provide in-person consular assistance in Ukraine due to the deteriorating security situation,” the ministry said on Twitter.

The foreign office said on Monday that UK nationals should instead, call its 24-hour helpline.

On February 24, under the command of President Vladimir Putin, Russia invaded Ukraine, after it granted independence to the Donetsk and Luhansk separatist regions.

Since the invasion that has been widely condemned by the U.S. European Union, and other countries, Moscow has been hit with barrage of sanctions on Russian entities and individuals.
