UN declares 2027-2036 decade for strengthening global peace
The United Nations has declared 2027 to 2036 the International Decade of Strengthening Peace for Future Generations.
TV BRICS reported that the declaration followed the adoption of a resolution by the UN General Assembly to establish a 10-year framework for promoting peace, cooperation and sustainable development.
The initiative, introduced by Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, was aimed at strengthening international collaboration, increasing youth participation in decision-making processes and promoting social cohesion.
The resolution reaffirmed commitment to the principles of the UN Charter and the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace, while encouraging initiatives that build mutual trust and partnership among nations.
It placed emphasis on involving children and young people in public life, strengthening confidence-building measures and supporting efforts that contribute to lasting peace.
Tajikistan’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Davlatshoh Gulmahmadzoda, said the initiative was designed to promote solidarity among nations and address challenges affecting future generations.
He said the decade would complement the outcomes of the Summit of the Future 2024 and the Pact for the Future adopted during the meeting.
Mr Gulmahmadzoda added that Tajikistan would continue to contribute to global peace efforts through its work on water resources, glacier preservation and climate-related issues.
The resolution recognised the role of inclusive political processes, national unity and social cohesion in strengthening peace and encouraged countries to share experiences that could inspire future generations.
The initiative also reflects the humanitarian priorities of BRICS, including efforts to promote international cooperation, sustainable development and humanitarian exchanges.
The resolution was adopted by all UN member states, including BRICS countries and partner nations, demonstrating global support for advancing peace and cooperation.
