Unemployed Abuja man remanded for allegedly stealing six phones

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A Senior Magisterates’ Court in Dutse, Abuja on Wednesday ordered that an unemplyed man, Salim Nasir should be remanded in police custody for allegedly stealing six phones.

The police charged Nasir, who lives in Kubwa, Abuja with criminal trespass, house breaking and theft.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Senior Magisterate Ibrahim Alkali adjourned the matter until Aug 10 for hearing.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel,  Ogehenekaro Agbodo, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 24.

She said the defendant broke into an apartment located in Kubwa, Abuja at midnight while the occupants were sleeping and stole six phones belonging to the occupants.

She said the value of the phone is N1.59 million.

She informed the court that during police investigation and interrogation after his arrest, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of his actions.

She said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code Law.
