Unemployed man jailed two years for trafficking marijuana

The Kaduna Division of the Federal High Court on Wednesday sentenced a 37-year-old unemployed man, Victor Ejike, to two years’ imprisonment for trafficking 500g of cannabis.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency charged Mr Ejike with dealing in restricted narcotics.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court to temper justice with mercy and give him another chance to turn a new leaf.
Justice Hadiza Shagari found the convict guilty as charged and accordingly sentenced him.
“The convict is hereby sentenced to a term of two years imprisonment beginning from the date of his arrest,” the judge stated.
The prosecution counsel, T.J. Atserhegh, tendered a written statement of the convict, a bulk of exhibit, a request for scientific aid form, a drug analysis form, and remnants of the restricted substance.
Mr Atserhegh told the court that the convict committed the offence on October 12.
He said the convict was arrested in the Rigasa area of Kaduna with about 500g of cannabis.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
