Embattled Professor Cyril Ndifon of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, sued the school’s management after he was suspended following various allegations of sexual harassment among female students.  

Mr Ndifon instituted a suit against the vice-chancellor, Florence Obi, and other administration members at the National Industrial Court in Calabar. 

The suspended law professor explained that he dragged the VC and others to court to remove his name from the allegations against him. 

He also accused the VC of sponsoring the campaign to remove him from his position as dean and the institution. 

Mr Ndifon’s suit also accommodates the university’s registrar, Dorathy Oluwagbemi-Jacob, for herself and on behalf of members of the investigative panel that treated the allegations brought against him. 

In the suit No. NICN/CA/42/2023 between Mr Ndifon ( the claimant), the vice-chancellor, and three others as defendants, the dean registered his displeasure on how his image was smeared with the sexual harassment allegations.

The Calabar Division of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria issued an originating summon to the defendants, who are expected to honour the invitation within eight days of receiving it.

“If the defendants do not make their appearance within the time and at the place mentioned, an order will be made and proceedings taken as the judge may think just and expedient,” the summons partly read. 

The university’s public relations officer, Effiong Eyo, confirmed that Mr Ndifon had sued the management. 

Mr Effiong explained that Mr Ndifon’s faculty brought allegations against him to the management. 

“ The faculty only alleged. Management set up a panel in its wisdom to oblige him to go there to state the facts or exonerate himself. Nobody has pronounced him guilty. He has rather chosen to head to court. Well, the university will be there,” Mr Effiong said.
