The University of Jos has won the hosting rights for the 2024 edition of the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA).

UNIJOS defeated the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, for the hosting rights while University of Calabar withdrew its bid.

Joe Apu, the media representative of UNIJOS, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.

According to the statement, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIJOS, Tanko Ishaya, said he is elated to have the university as the school of choice.

The statement added that Professor Ishaya promised to provide state of the-art-facilities for athletes and officials.

“We have been longing and looking forward to this opportunity and we thank God and all the people that made it possible for us to get the hosting right.

“We are delighted that we bidded for the games and won. We’re grateful to the Chairman of the University of Jos, Governing Council Prof. Attahiru Jega, for backing us.

“Plans are already on ground for facilities and infrastructure which will gladden the hearts of athletes and officiating officials as well as NUGA officials,” the statement quoted Mr Ishaya as saying.

According to him, the 27th edition of the Games in 2024 will go down in history as one to be remembered.

He also assured athletes and officials of security, adding that the state government was working round the clock to ensure that they would be secured.

“UNIJOS is safe for NUGA and by the grace of God, we will host the best NUGA Games.

“We are also conscious of security and during that time, we will make sure that the town is covered in order to guarantee the safety of lives and property,” Mr Ishaya said.
