Vandals disrupting ongoing repairs on Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line: TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria says vandals have again disrupted repair work of its Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line, which is currently under repair due to previous vandalism.
TCN’s spokeswoman, Ndidi Mbah, announced this in a statement on Friday.
Ms Mbah said the second attack, which affected towers 29 to 31 and resulted in the theft of approximately one-third of the conductor, occurred on Tuesday.
She said a team of TCN engineers, led by Emmanuel Akpa, the general manager of the Port Harcourt region, had inspected the site.
Ms Mbah said the preliminary findings indicated that the incident occurred on Tuesday night.
”In order to prevent further theft while repairs are being made, local security has been engaged at Ula Ikata in Ahoada East local government area to secure the site until repairs are completed. Additionally, the line will be energised from the Ahoada end as a preventive measure.
”Efforts to replace the stolen 250mm conductor are currently underway in spite of challenges posed by difficult terrain and flooding. The restringing of the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line is approximately 85 per cent completed,” she said.
Ms Mbah said that on November 19, vandals attacked the transmission towers in Okada and Ofosu along the 330kV Benin-Egbin and Benin-Omotosho transmission lines, affecting 31 towers.
She said TCN linesmen discovered the vandalised towers, which suffered significant damage, with critical components removed during a routine patrol.
Ms Mbah said that as TCN intensifies its efforts to protect installations and appeal to security operatives,s and local communities to be more vigilant in safeguarding power infrastructure in their areas.
