The Vehicle Inspection Service has impounded 241 unlicensed vehicles in Lagos State.

The state government disclosed this on its X handle on Tuesday.

It said, “The Lagos State Government has impounded 241 vehicles during a recent enforcement exercise conducted by the Vehicle Inspection Service. The vehicles were found to be unlicensed and in violation of the state’s transportation regulations.”

According to the state government, the operation by the VIS is in compliance with Sections 15 and 16 of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL) 2018.

Urging motorists to refrain from violating transportation laws, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, warned them against driving unregistered vehicles.

Mr Osiyemi said, “Such practices undermine law enforcement efforts, particularly in identifying and tracking stolen vehicles or those involved in criminal activities.’’

The commissioner, who quoted Section 16 of the TSRL 2018, said that it’s a crime to drive a vehicle without proper registration or affixed identification marks.

“A fake dealer number plate was discovered on one of the impounded vehicles,” he stated, noting that investigations were ongoing to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for issuing the fraudulent plate.

He therefore urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, stressing that their compliance would help the government ensure a safe and secure environment for them.
