WAEC candidates remanded for exam malpractices in Ibadan

She said the defendants were caught copying answers already prepared and sent to them through their cell phones.

Justice Uche Agomoh of the Ibadan Division of the Federal High Court on Wednesday remanded three men, Peter Aniboro, Tunde Popoola and Seun Akinola, over alleged examination malpractices.


Ruling on the matter, Mr Agomoh admitted each of them to N500,000 bail with two reliable sureties in like sum.


The judge said one of the sureties must be a civil servant, while the second must be a family member.


Mr Agomoh then adjourned the case until September 26 for the commencement of trial.


As of the time of compiling this report, the defendants have been unable to meet the bail conditions.


The prosecutor, CSP. Oluwafunke Fawole, had told the court that the defendants were arraigned on a three-count charge of stealing, cheating and examination malpractices.


Ms Fawole said Messrs Aniboro, 32, Popoola, 44, and Akinola, 30, were arrested on Tuesday, May 23, at Clofam College, Agbalayun, Apata in Ibadan, while writing the 2023 West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).


She said the defendants were caught copying answers already prepared and sent to them through their cell phones.


According to her, the offences contravened sections 390, 383 and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 Laws of the Federation.
