The executive chairwoman of the Federal Character Commission, Hulayat Omidiran, has urged Nigeria’s Super Falcons to focus on a record-extending 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.

Ms Omidiran made the call in a goodwill message to the reigning African champions, praising the team for consistently projecting Nigeria’s image positively on the continent and beyond.

She urged the players to remain united, focused and committed throughout the tournament.

“We believe in your ability to make Nigeria proud once again. Stay united, remain focused and continue to display the fighting spirit that has made the Super Falcons the pride of Africa,” she said.

Ms Omidiran, a former NFF executive board and FIFA Women’s Football Committee member, said Nigerians were firmly behind the team in their quest for another continental title.

“As you begin your quest for another Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title, I extend my unwavering support and best wishes to our gallant Super Falcons. The entire nation is behind you as you chase a record-extending 11th WAFCON crown,” she said.

She said the Super Falcons had inspired Nigerians through their resilience, excellence and patriotism.

According to her, the team’s achievements have inspired many young Nigerian girls to aspire to careers in sports.

The FCC chairwoman assured the players of Nigerians’ prayers and support throughout the competition and expressed confidence that they would return home with the continental trophy.

“You have consistently inspired Nigerians with your resilience, excellence and patriotic spirit,” she said.

Ms Omidiran expressed optimism that the team would consolidate its position as Africa’s most successful women’s national side by winning an unprecedented 11th WAFCON title.

Super Falcons lost 2-3 to Malawi in their first group encounter, denting their quest to retain the title.

They will later take on Zambia and Egypt in their Group B campaign.
