Wike claims opposition misleading Nigerians about Tinubu’s performance
FCT minister Nyesom Wike says opposition politicians are misleading Nigerians about President Bola Tinubu’s performance.
Mr Wike, who spoke on Tuesday during an interview with journalists, said Mr Tinubu’s administration deserved recognition for its achievements.
He said political differences should not stop opposition figures from acknowledging positive developments.
“Whether anybody likes it or not, Mr President has done well. Politics must not be played as a do-or-die affair,” he said, urging political actors to distinguish between legitimate criticism and statements intended primarily to discredit opponents.
He said Governor Bala Mohammed belongs to the Allied Peoples Movement, an opposition party, but acknowledged aspects of Tinubu’s performance.
Mr Wike argued that recognising the president’s achievements should not automatically be interpreted as a betrayal of opposition politics, adding that national interest should take precedence over partisan considerations.
The minister also defended the Rainbow Coalition, which brings together members of the All Progressives Congress and supporters of Mr Tinubu from other political parties.
According to him, a political leader’s influence could be measured by the ability to persuade supporters to embrace a particular course of action.
He said the coalition would continue to accommodate individuals willing to contribute to the president’s re-election, regardless of whether they belonged to the APC.
Mr Wike said Nigerians should assess the government on its record rather than rely solely on partisan claims.
