Wike-sanctioned Rainbow coalition pledges inclusive Rivers reconciliation

The Reconciliation Committee of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers says no member will be victimised or discriminated against during the ongoing peace process.
The committee chairman, Magnus Abe, disclosed this after members met with Governor Siminalayi Fubara at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Sunday.
Mr Abe said the meeting was the committee’s second engagement with Fubara within two weeks to discuss modalities for the reconciliation process.
He said FCT minister Nyesom Wike established the committee to facilitate reconciliation.
According to him, the initiative seeks to enable members of the political family to work together under a new atmosphere of peace.
Mr Abe said all stakeholders would be treated equally, respectfully and as members of the original political family under the reconciliation arrangement.
“I’m sure that Rivers people will be very curious to understand exactly what we have been talking about. So, I know that this will be a very good news for all Rivers people who are interested in the unity, progress and prosperity of the state. We are all in agreement, and we have made very good progress,” Abe said.
He described the stakeholders’ renewed cooperation as a significant shift in Rivers’ political atmosphere, expressing optimism that residents would accept it.
Mr Abe said Rivers people, who have long desired peace and stability in the state, would welcome the development.
Samuel Nwanosike, APC South-South zonal spokesman, commended Mr Fubara for allowing the committee to meet and dialogue.
Mr Nwanosike described the meeting as a positive development, saying it demonstrated that the state’s political family was genuinely coming together.
Ambrose Nwuzi, a stakeholder, said members who believed in Fubara had agreed to embrace peace, stressing that nothing was better than peace.
Mr Nwuzi described previous disagreements among stakeholders as normal occurrences in any human society.
“I can tell you that we have reconciled. All that we are waiting for is for the minister of the Federal Capital Territory to put the seal. The reconciliation process has been going on for the past few weeks,” he said.
Other members of the delegation included APC governorship candidate in Rivers, Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, and Tamosisi Gogo-Jaja, among others.
The reconciliation efforts aim to restore political harmony among stakeholders while fostering unity, progress and development across Rivers.
