Wikki Tourists Football Club of Bauchi began their 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign on a bright note with a narrow 1-0 victory over Plateau United on Sunday.

The keenly contested day-one fixture, played at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, saw Wikki’s Lewis Addong convert a penalty in the 40th minute to seal the win.

Despite several attempts from both sides, the second half ended goalless, with both teams locked in a tense midfield battle.

Speaking after the match, Plateau United’s head coach, Oluwasola Adegun, admitted his disappointment with the outcome.

He said, “We were better in the first half but could not take our chances. We will work to improve our performance in the next matches. I must commend Wikki Tourists; they played excellent football.”

The captain of Plateau United, Albert Hillary, also acknowledged the intensity of the game.

He stated, “It was a tough match, but we believe our next outing will be better.’’

On his part, Wikki Tourists’ Technical Adviser, Abdul Maikaba, expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance.

He said, “It was a good game, and I believe the victory will please our stakeholders. In spite of joining the league late, the players have shown resilience. Plateau United remains a strong side.’’

Wikki Tourists’ captain, Yusuf Mohammed, could not hide his joy after the final whistle.

He said, “I am overwhelmed with the victory. We thank God and promise to do even better in our next matches.’’

With the win, Wikki Tourists secured three crucial points to kick-start their NPFL campaign, while Plateau United will look forward to bounce back in their next game.
