Woman, 29, arraigned over alleged verbal abuse

A 29-year-old woman, Tosin Afowowe, was on Tuesday docked in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan, Oyo State, over an alleged verbal abuse.
Afowowe, whose address was not provided was charged with verbal, emotional abuse and malicious damage, to which she pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Olagoke Adegbenro, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between 2025 and January, 2026, at Elebu, Ibadan.
Mr Adegbenro alleged that the defendant unlawfully caused verbal, emotional and psychological abuse against the complainant, Oluwabukola Adewale.
He alleged that the defendant sent offensive text and voice messages to Adewale’s WhatsApp, calling her degrading names.
He alleged that the defendant also maliciously damaged the POP ceiling worth N1.2 million belonging to Adewale.
He said the offences contravene provisions of Sections 15(1) of the Oyo State Violence against Person’s Law, 2020 and 451 of the Criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Olasinmibo Sanusi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in like sum.
Sanusi, among other terms, held that two of the sureties must be blood relations to the defendant.
She adjourned the case until June 1, for hearing.
