Woman seeks custody of 14-year-old daughter

A mother of four, Fatima Yahaya, on Wednesday, prayed to a Grade I Area Court, Lugbe, to grant her custody of her 14-year-old daughter.
Yahaya who resides in Sauka, Abuja, told the court that her former husband, Muhammed Danjuma, was unable to take good care of their children.
She said that her marriage with Danjuma was separated in November 2024, and that he had kept the children with his mother in his village, Tundun Wada since then.
She said, “Instead of putting our 14-year-old daughter in school, Danjuma sent him to serve as housemaid to a woman who was maltreating her. My daughter ran away from the guardian, and returned to me due to hardship and torture. She has been crying, she doesn’t want to return to her guardian’s house. I want my daughter back. I will take responsibility for her.’’.
The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, ordered the petitioner to keep the daughter in her custody pending the determination of the case.
He adjourned the matter to February 19 for hearing.
