Women’s Equality Day: Soludo’s wife advocates boundless opportunities for women, girls

The wife of the Anambra State governor, Nonye Soludo, has called for equal opportunities for women and girls to learn, lead, work, dream and thrive without limitations imposed by gender, culture, religion or social barriers.
Mrs Soludo made the call on Wednesday in a message marking Women’s Equality Day, observed every August 26, with the theme – “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.”
Women’s Equality Day is celebrated to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment, which secured women’s constitutional right to vote in the U.S.
She celebrated the strength, brilliance, resilience and invaluable contributions of women globally.
According to her, equality is not about giving women undue advantage but ensuring that every woman and girl has the opportunity to realise her full potential.
“Equality is not about giving women an advantage; it is about ensuring that every woman and girl has the opportunity to learn, lead, work, dream and thrive without limitations imposed by gender, culture, religion, or social impediment,” she said.
According to Mrs Soludo, empowering women strengthens families, promotes healthier communities and contributes to the advancement of society.
She urged stakeholders to continue creating an environment where every girl could envision a positive future and every woman could occupy her rightful place in society.
Mrs Soludo also celebrated women who inspire, nurture, lead and transform society.
The governor’s wife called for continued efforts to create spaces where women’s voices would be heard, contributions valued and potential fully realised.
She wished women a fulfilling Women’s Equality Day celebration and encouraged society to sustain the promotion of inclusion and equal opportunities for all.
