World leaders will converge in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday for the Global Fund’s 8th Replenishment Summit.

It is an event expected to generate new commitments to end AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, according to a statement by the Global Health Strategies on Wednesday.

The high-level meeting, co-hosted by South Africa and the United Kingdom, will be led by President Cyril Ramaphosa and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

It will be held in person and virtually alongside the G20 Leaders Summit in Johannesburg, to allow for wider participation.

GHS said that the summit offered a major opportunity to mobilise fresh donor support for the Global Fund.

It added that the fund remained the world’s largest financier of programmes for the prevention, treatment and care of people affected by AIDS, TB and malaria.

”According to GHS, the 2025 replenishment is expected to attract bold pledges, accelerate action and reinforce partnerships involving governments, civil society, multilateral organisations and the private sector.

‘’South Africa and the UK are championing the core principles that guide the Global Fund’s work, including solidarity, sustainability, innovation, equity and reform,‘’ it said.

According to GHS, discussions at the Summit will also focus on strengthening resilient and sustainable health systems capable of protecting vulnerable communities and responding to future health emergencies.

It urged the media and stakeholders to remain engaged as preparations intensify ahead of the event.

The Global Fund and its partners are calling for a renewed commitment to ‘#StopAtNothing’ in the fight against AIDS, TB, and malaria.
