WTT Contender Lagos: Omotayo, Solanke lead Nigeria into men’s doubles semifinals as Asia continues dominance

Nigerian duo of Omotayo Olajide and Azeez Solanke are into the semifinals of the men’s doubles event of opening World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender Lagos following a tough win against compatriot duo of Omeh Amadi and Kuti Matthew.
The team up of Olajide and Solanke defeated the team of Amadi and Matthew 3-2 (11-9, 9-11, 7-11, 11-5, 6-11) in an all-Nigerian quarter-final tie to reach the last four. There, they will face the Chinese duo of Fei Junhang and Luo Jiecheng for a spot in the final.
Junhang and Jiecheng defeated the Indian duo of Pal Akash and Shah Utpalbhai Manush 3-2 (10-12, 8-11, 11-6, 13-11, 7-11) in an all-Asian quarter-final matchup.
In the other semifinal game, the Chinese duo of Ning Xiankun and Kang Youde, who defeated the Indian duo of Achanta Kamal Sharath and Gnanasekaran 3-2, will face the Indian duo of Desai Harmeet and Thakkar Vikash Manav.
In their quarter-final match, the Indians defeated the Nigerian duo of Abdulfatai Abdulbasit and Fabunmi Mathew 3-0 (7-11, 3-11, 11-13).
In the women’s doubles semifinal, the Chinese duo of Ding Yijie and Sun Sinan, who defeated the Nigerian duo of Oyeniyi Kehinde and Odusanya 3-0 in their quarter-final match, will face the Indian duo of Chitale Parag Diya and Yashaswini Ghorpade.
The Indian duo defeated the Nigerian duo of Akpan Cecilia and Edem Offiong to reach the last four.
The Indian duo of Mukherjee Ayhika and Mukherjee Sutirtha, who defeated the team up of Yoo Siwoo (South Korea) and Badawy Farida (Egypt) 3-0, will face the compatriot duo of Kamath Girish Archana and Akula Sreeja in the other semifinal match.
Archana and Sreeja defeated the Nigerian duo of Aiyelbegan Sukurat and Jimoh Rofiat 3-0 (11-8, 11-4, 11-2) to reach the last four.
