Yobe government to relocate Damaturu Timber Market
On Friday, the Yobe Geographic Information Service (YOGIS) said it would relocate the Damaturu Timber Market to clear congestion in the metropolis.
Usman Geidam, the agency’s spokesman, stated that the Yobe government had decided to move the market to Pompomari from its current location in the Sabonlayi area.
Mr Geidam said the agency had already informed the management of the market about the decision at a recent meeting.
“The meeting was chaired by Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf, YOGIS director, town planning, other management staff and the Art, Craft and Timber Vendors Association. He told the vendors about the government’s intention to ease congestion and expand the Damaturu metropolis,” Mr Geidam explained.
He added, “He further explained that the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni is keenly interested in the infrastructure development and commercial activities at the outskirts of the metropolis. The vendors expressed their support for the move and pledged to give the government all the necessary cooperation.”
