Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Zamfara State, Tukur Danfulani, has commended ex-governors and other stakeholders of the party in the state over its victory at Saturday’s by-election in the Kaura Namoda South State Constituency.

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday declared the APC candidate, Kamilu Sa’idu, as winner of the by-election.

The declaration followed the conclusion of the supplementary election in two registration areas with five polling units which were cancelled after the August 16 by-election.

The result declared by the Returning Officer of the election, Prof. Lawal Sa’adu, saw Mr Sa’idu scoring 8,182 voters while the Peoples Democratic Party candidate polled 5,544 votes.

Speaking to journalists in Gusau on Friday, Mr Danfulani described the election as credible.

He said “The by-election was successful despite more pressure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win the election. We appreciate our key APC leaders in the state, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari and the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle. We commend the efforts of other stakeholders of the party particularly, the APC ‘Commander’ for the by-election and House of Representatives member, Abdulmalik Zubairu, for his efforts during the election exercise. We really appreciate APC members and supporters for their unity as well as conducting themselves in peaceful and orderly manner.’’

The APC chairman also commended INEC and the security agencies for making good arrangements for the election which he said led to its peaceful conduct.

Mr Danfulani stated, “Our appreciation also goes to journalists for their professional conduct and balanced reportage during the coverage of the election.’’
