Zimbabwe ferry accident death toll climbs to 93

Death toll from a ferry accident on Zimbabwe’s Lake Kariba has risen to 93, a week after the incident.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police “confirmed that the Kariba Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) boat accident death toll has risen to 93.”
The police also released the names of 39 victims identified by their next of kin, bringing the total number of victims identified to 83.
Zimbabwe’s Provincial Affairs Minister Marian Chombo said 67 people had been rescued from the capsized ferry. However, many of the bodies recovered were yet to be identified.
“We are running out of time and DNA may now be needed to assist in the identification process,” the minister told local media, the Herald.
A week ago, a 90-passenger ferry, loaded with over 160 passenger, capsized after it was hit by a strong wave.
