Governor Babagana Zulum says his administration spent over N9 billion on scholarships for 32,000 students in one year.

Bala Isa, the executive secretary of the Borno State Scholarship Board, said this while briefing journalists in Maiduguri.

Mr Isa said that most of the students studied Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

He also said that the state government has approved the release of funds for additional scholarships to postgraduate students in the fields of education, arts, social sciences, languages, humanities and management sciences.

“This initiative is designed to nurture the intellectual and professional growth of our indigenes, ensuring they are well equipped to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic transformation of our state and the nation at large,” Mr Isa said.

He also said that the state government had approved scholarship awards for those who were interested in studying pilot training.

The official stated that this would provide interested and qualified Borno indigenes with the chance to pursue an aviation career.

“This dual scholarship initiative reflects His Excellency’s deep belief in the transformative power of education and skill development,” added Mr Isah. “It is rooted in his commitment to creating impactful governance, and this initiative is yet another testament to his dedication to the welfare of our people.”
