The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, has tasked personnel to be professional during the February 21 FCT Area Council election.

Mr Odumosu gave the charge while meeting with senior officers on Wednesday at the NSCDC FCT Command Headquarters.

He also charged officers and men to be neutral, non-partisan, and non-compromising during the electioneering process.

The meeting had in attendance heads of departments (HODs), heads of units (HOUs), area commanders and divisional officers (DOs).

Mr Odumosu said for the corps to remain relevant in the security architecture of the FCT, personnel must also imbibe the culture of civility, integrity and mental alertness.

He hinted that apart from its core mandate of ensuring the protection of lives and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), the corps played a major role in election security.

The commandant urged the senior officers to ensure proper coordination of staff across command formations in order to achieve a free, fair, credible and violence-free election.

“The responsibility of protecting staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), sensitive and non-sensitive materials and electorates before, during and after the election is non-negotiable,” he said.

He advised personnel currently undergoing training at the FCT INEC office to be committed to the rules, regulations and core standard protocols in election security management, which stipulate zero tolerance for corruption and compromises.

Mr Odumosu urged the management team to remain on top of their games to properly cover their jurisdictions properly through intensified surveillance.

He advised them to maintain a cordial relationship with traditional rulers and communities for increased credible Intelligence gathering and prompt response to distress calls.

He commended personnel for their cooperation and commitment throughout 2025 which attracted the commandant general’s commendation during his recent working visit to the command.

“You must refrain from mediocrity and overzealousness but remain committed to justifying the responsibility bestowed on us by government with an improved appetite for results.

“So much is expected of us in the new year and we must not disappoint the people and government,” the commandant said.

Mr Odumosu further appealed to political actors and their supporters to eschew violence during the coming elections or face the wrath of the law.

INEC will conduct the February 21 election in the six area councils of the FCT.
