62 inmates graduate from formal education programme in Kano

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says it has graduated 62 inmates under its continuing education programme in Kano State.
The graduates sat for the National Examination Council (NECO) and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) Examination.
The controller of corrections in the state, Ado Inuwa, said this at a graduation ceremony on Thursday in Kano.
He said the programme was in line with the NCoS Act 2019, and modern correctional practices, which availed the inmates opportunities to further their education and learn vocational skills while in custody.
Mr Inuwa said the programme was designed to rebrand and rehabilitate the inmates to become good citizens upon their eventual release from custody.
He applauded the controller general of corrections (CGC), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, for his support towards improving the welfare of the inmates as well as engaging them productively in educational and vocational programmes.
The commander also lauded Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf for his support to the inmates that enable them to pursue their education as well as enhancing quality healthcare service delivery in custodial facilities in the state.
“This support has led to many inmates graduating with credit passes in subjects including English Language and Mathematics,” he said.
He enjoined the inmates to be good ambassadors, adding that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu was aimed at improving their welfare.
Also, Mr Kabir-Yusuf reaffirmed commitment to support the Service towards promoting custodial education for the benefit of inmates.
Represented by Umar Ibrahim-Faruk, the secretary to the state government, Mr Kabir-Yusuf expressed joy over the successful reformation of the inmates through formal education.
