Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said his administration’s educational policies enabled the return of 65,000 out-of-school children to classes.

Mr Makinde said this while welcoming a delegation from the Better Education Service Delivery for Additional Financing (BESDA-AF) Implementation Support Mission of the World Bank and Universal Basic Education Commission, who paid him a courtesy visit on Thursday in Ibadan.

Mr Makinde said that Oyo State benefitted from the BESDA-AF intervention programme, adding  that, “It has enhanced and improved the education sector in the state.”

The governor thanked the World Bank and UBEC for providing the structural and funding support, assuring that his administration would put in the necessary resources to access the funds allocated to the state in the new cycle.

Earlier in his remarks, the team lead for the Universal Basic Education Commission, Mayowa Aleshin, said their visit to the state was to evaluate the implementation of the BESDA-AF project, challenges and review for further recommendations.

Mr Aleshin, who is also the national programme coordinator, appreciated the immense and massive support of the state government in the implementation of the intervention’s programme.

The team leader for the World Bank, Shinsaku Nomura, lauded Mr Makinde’s efforts in reforming the education sector and for providing access to quality education at all levels.
