Abuja man nabbed for housebreaking

A 22-year-old man, Michael Chindo, was arraigned in the Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja, for housebreaking and threatening his neighbour with a knife.
The police charged Mr Chindo with criminal trespass, housebreaking, mischief, intimidation and attempted theft.
Prosecution counsel Abdullahi Tanko told the court that the complainant, Bisi Alao of old Kutunku Gwagwalada, Abuja, reported the matter at the police station on October 16.
Mr Tanko said the defendant broke into the complainant’s room through the window, threatening to kill her with a knife.
He said the defendant damaged the complainant’s ceiling in an attempt to steal recharge cards and money.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The judge, Sani Umar, admitted the defendant to N400,000 bail, with a surety, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Mr Umar also said the surety must provide two recent passport photographs and valid means of identification.
He ordered that the court staff must verify the surety’s address, and in default, the defendant should be remanded in prison custody.
He adjourned the case until January 25 for a hearing.
