OndoDecides: Police deploy DIG, other senior officers for security

Inspector-General Mohammed Adamu has asked Adeleye Oyabade to coordinate security for the Ondo State governorship election.
Mr. Oyebade, deputy inspector-general overseeing research and planning, would lead a contingent of officers that include Karma Hassan, an assistant inspector-general, and 11 commissioners, police spokesman Frank Mba said in a statement Friday.
The commissioners who would be coordinating the multiple layers of security in Ondo are: Abiodun Alabi, Bishi Omololu, Ashafa Kunle, Akeera Yonous, Buba Sanusi, Audu Madaki, Evelyn Peterside, Sadiku Gbenga and Abutu Yaro.
Garba Umar and Habu Sani will lead monitoring and evaluation.
The police say they are set to ensure effective coordination and full implementation of security arrangements toward a peaceful election on October 10.
Political parties and candidates have ramped up preparations for the exercise next weekend. Incumbent Rotimi Akeredolu (APC) is locked in a three-way race with Agboola Ajayi (ZLP) and Eyitayo Jegede (PDP).
A new poll out on Friday showed the PDP and APC candidates running neck and neck at 37 percent and 36 percent, respectively.
Pollsters Eagle Badger Consulting said the results indicated Mr. Akeredolu’s potential victory, as PDP and ZLP candidates are likely to cut into each other’s chances, rendering Mr. Akeredolu’s APC base sufficient for his victory.
