The Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Mr Joe Johnson, has said Governor Siminalayi Fubara will honour the peace deal reached with his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike.
Mr Johnson made the disclosure on Wednesday during a programme on Channels TV.
Recall that on Monday President Bola Tinubu intervened in the festering crisis between Mr Fubara and his political godfather which made 27 state lawmakers loyal to the latter to defect to the All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party.
The outcome of the meeting produced terms which Fubara and the feuding assembly members were to abide by, with political watchers insinuating that the terms favoured Mr Wike’s camp than the Mr Fubara’s.
Asked if the governor agreed to the peace pact, Mr Johnson said, “There is nothing to doubt, we have gone beyond the issue as to who signed, and who didn’t sign. In the next couple of hours, I will be unveiling some of the approvals His Excellency has already given as an indication that he is prepared for peace.’’
The resolutions of the peace deal are expected to calm the tense state politics.
The resolutions brokered by Mr Tinubu included a withdrawal of suits filed to enforce the replacement of the defected lawmakers in their bid to impeach the governor.
Mr Fubara also agreed that the lawmakers could hold plenary sessions wherever they chose despite a Supreme Court precedent which favoured the assembly complex as a designated place for plenary sessions.
The resolution included that the pro-Wike commissioners who resigned their positions at the peak of the rift should be re-absolved into the cabinet.
