Pro-government thugs attack #EndSARS in Abuja.
Thugs suspected to be supporting the police and federal government have attacked youths protesting against police brutality in Abuja.
The #EndSARS protesters were attacked earlier today at the popular Berger Junction during their procession against decades of police violence and corruption.
Nigerians took to the streets last week to demand an immediate dissolution of the brutal and corrupt police anti-robbery squad. The protests that have spread across the country are still ongoing.
Peoples Gazette saw how the thugs charged at protesters with sticks and machete when they converged at the key intra-city transport hub on Wednesday.
Some of the marchers were injured by the hoodlums, who also went on to vandalise several cars brought by protesters.
One of the aggrieved protesters who prefer anonymity told Peoples Gazette that they had to retaliate to enable them repel the attack from the hoodlums.
“We were forced to attack and disperse them and some of them were injured as well,” he said without immediately providing his identity.
The thugs had been disrupting protests in support of the government since Monday, hoping the protesters would back down amidst fear of violence.
Protests resumed across Nigeria on Wednesday, amidst talks with the government on how to resolve the lingering stalemate on police reforms.
