Pope Francis has released ‘Hope: The Autobiography’, a groundbreaking 320-page memoir that provides an intimate look into his life, beliefs, and papacy. 

Published on Tuesday by Random House, the book is hailed as a “historic publication” and marks the first time in history a sitting pope has published an autobiography.  

The autobiography delves into Pope Francis’ personal and spiritual journey, from his Italian ancestry and family’s migration to Latin America to his childhood, early years, and rise to become the leader of the Catholic Church. 

Written over six years, the memoir also addresses pivotal moments of his papacy and his thoughts on pressing global issues, including climate change, poverty, immigration, arms control, and war.  

According to the English-language publisher, the pope originally intended to release the book posthumously. 

However, he decided to publish it now in response to the urgent challenges of the times and the upcoming 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope.  

Since his election in 2013, Pope Francis has been widely regarded as a reformist leader who prioritises compassion, inclusivity, and social justice.

His efforts to modernise the Catholic Church have included addressing issues like poverty, environmental degradation, and gender equality while promoting interfaith dialogue and global peace.

The autobiography solidifies his legacy as a forward-thinking leader unafraid to tackle the most pressing issues of our time.
