Teenager arraigned over alleged theft of building materials worth N482,000

A teenager, Dominion Jonathan, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged stealing of building materials valued at N482,000.
Jonathan, 19, whose address was not given, is being charged with stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 30, at Shaibu St., in the Cele area of Ojo.
Uche said that the defendant stole iron rods worth N482,000 from an uncompleted building, belonging to the complainant, Obinna Madu.
He said that during interrogation, the defendant denied being responsible for the theft of the iron rods, claiming that they were stolen by scavengers.
The prosecutor said that the defendant also told the police that he had informed the complainant of his innocence in the matter but was ignored.
He said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Lateef Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until July 28 for mention.
