A 21-year-old student of the University of Lagos, Chidinma Ojukwu, who is the prime suspect in the murder case of Super TV proprietor, Usifo Ataga, has denied her involvement in the death of the deceased after initially admitting that she killed him.

The suspect stated this in an interview with CrimeFighters TV on Monday, revealing that she gave a false confession when she admitted that she stabbed the deceased to death.

According to her, the deceased and her both checked into the apartment but she left to get some things for both of them, by the time she returned there was no response from Mr Ataga.

She said, “We were just indoors, watching movies, drinking, and smoking.

“He woke up before me because I was still feeling sleepy and dizzy because of the smoke, drinks, and the drugs.

“He asked what we need, so I was like we need to buy food and drugs.

“Before I left, he stood up to lock the door but when I got in, I was knocking, and as there was no answer, I opened the door, and it opened like it wasn’t locked.

“The duvet was on the floor plus clothes.

“The couch was facing the door, and the door was stained with blood already.

“…the music was on; the TV was on.

“The room was very disarranged like someone broke in.

“Then I saw him on the floor, I didn’t know what to do, I took my things with his things and left.

“I was afraid.

“I didn’t know if I had raised alarm, they would have arrested me for doing it, because I and him were the only people in the room. I just left.”

On June 24, Chidinma Ojukwu was paraded by the Lagos police before the media as a suspect for the death of Mr Usifo Ataga.

Mr Ataga was found dead in a pool of blood with wounds inflicted on his body in a Lekki apartment.

During a press interview thereafter, Ms Ojukwu told journalists that herself and Mr Ataga were lovers and she stabbed the deceased because he was violent towards her when he demanded sex.

“I told him that he doesn’t help me but only plays me around, he kept trying to make advances and I was resisting so I had to defend myself,” she said.

“I grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him twice in the neck and threw the knife on the bed.”

According to the police, the matter is still under investigation, while Ms Ojukwu remains a suspect.
