The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will, on Thursday, commence the inauguration of the construction of 12 new roads.

This is contained in a statement signed by the minister’s senior special assistant, public communications and social media, Lere Olayinka, on Monday in Abuja.

Mr Olayinka said Mr Wike will also inaugurate the provision of solar lights in some major areas in the Federal Capital City (FCC) and expressways under the Light Up Abuja Programme.

Mr Olayinka said that the inauguration exercise, which will last for one month, from Sept. 18 to Oct. 16, will cover two completed road projects and 14 new projects.

One of the projects, according to Mr Olayinka, is the procurement of integrated (hybrid) solar lighting in Abuja city and expressway under the Light Up Abuja Programme.

He said the solar lighting project covered Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, Central Business District (CBD), Airport Expressway, Lot II: Katampe, Garki I and II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi and Katampe Extension.

Other projects to be inaugurated included the development of an arterial road in Wuye district, provision of an access road to Bus Terminal at Mabushi district and provision of an access road to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates project site in Karsana.

He said the project also included the provision of an access road bypassing the Airport Second Runway from Bill Clinton Drive to Tunga Madaki settlement with a four-span bridge.

Mr Olayinka said the minister will also inaugurate the construction of an access road to the FCT Fire Service Station, erosion control in Kaura District with three span bridges, as well as the construction of a transit way to connect Central Area with Wuse District with two bridges.

The projects also included the rehabilitation of a 15-kilometre old Keffi road from Kado village to Dei-Dei Junction and engineering infrastructure to outstanding layouts within Guzape and Asikoro.

Mr Olayinka said the minister will also inaugurate the design and construction of residences for the heads of courts – President Court of Appeal, Federal High Court Chief Judge, Chief Judge of the FCT, Abuja and President Industrial Court.

Mr Olayinka recalled that the minister inaugurated several projects across satellite towns and area councils in the territory in the past weeks.
