Joint security forces foil armed robbery in Imo, nab suspect

The police command in Imo State, collaborating with joint security forces, on Monday, foiled a planned armed robbery at Works Layout, Owerri, arresting one suspect.
The command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, who narrated the incident in a statement on Thursday, stated that the early morning operation was initiated following “credible, timely tips from vigilant local residents.”
Mr Okoye said that the residents had noticed highly suspicious activity in the neighbourhood.
Acting swiftly, Mr Okoye stated that police operatives, led by Kennedy Oti, in collaboration with the military and vigilance members, combed the area and arrested Lucky Onyegbulam.
According to the spokesman, Mr Onyegbulam is a native of Umunoha in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area and resides at Umuodu, Mbieri.
“His accomplice, one Chijioke, escaped on sighting the security team. Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects had allegedly mobilised to rob unsuspecting residents before the operation was disrupted.
“A locally fabricated pistol believed to have been intended for the crime was recovered, while the arrested suspect remains in custody,” Mr Okoye stated.
He further stated that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and other members of the gang.
“The vital, real-time information allowed security operatives to coordinate a rapid response before any citizens were harmed.
“During the arrest, security forces recovered a locally fabricated pistol,” he added.
Mr Okoye said that the state Commissioner of Police, Audu Bosso, praised the professionalism displayed in the successful joint intervention and ordered a swift conclusion to the investigation.
“He has directed that the investigation be concluded, ensuring that every single individual connected to this criminal plot will face the full weight of the law,” Mr Okoye quoted Mr Bosso.
Mr Okoye urged citizens to remain highly vigilant, assuring residents that intelligence-led operations and strategic security partnerships would continue across the state.
