Wike’s PDP faction summons emergency meeting after Ibadan expulsion

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party deepened on Monday as the faction loyal to FCT minister Nyesom Wike summoned an emergency meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee and board of trustees.
The notice for the meeting was issued by Samuel Anyanwu, national secretary of the Wike-backed faction, amid escalating tensions following the suspension of key members at the party’s national convention held over the weekend in Ibadan.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday at the NEC Hall, PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
“Attendance is very important as crucial matters will be discussed and addressed,” the notice said.
Messrs Wike and Anyanwu were expelled from the party on Tuesday at the national convention in Ibadan. Former Governor Ayodele Fayose was also expelled.
Bode George, PDP’s former national vice-chairman (South), moved the motion for the expulsion of Mr Wike and eight others, while Samaila Buga, chairman of the PDP in Bauchi, seconded the motion.
