Aruna Quadri advances to ITTF Africa Cup Quarter-Finals

Nigeria’s table tennis star Aruna Quadri, on Sunday, qualified for the quarter-finals of the ITTF Africa Cup Championship in Benghazi, Libya, holding from February 7 to 9, 2026.
Quadri outplayed Libya’s Alajaebi Habeb in straight games 11-3, 11-4, 11-3, and 11-1 to win 4-0, in the men’s singles round of 16.
The National Sports Commission in a post on X, hailed his performance.
It stated, “The National Sports Commission commends Aruna’s composure, excellence, and unwavering representation of Team Nigeria as the campaign progresses on the continental stage.”
In other men’s round of 16 ties, Nigeria’s Olajide Omotayo, failed to qualify for the quarter-finals after losing 4–0 to Algeria’s Stephanie Ouaiche, with scores of 11-6, 11-2, 11-4 and 11-8.
Other round of 16 results saw Egypt’s Omar Assar defeat Morocco’s Banchat Marius 4–0, with scores of 11-6, 11-2, 11-6, 11-6, to advance to the quater-finals
Also, Tunisia’s Wassim Essid defeated Benin Republic’s Salifou Abdel-Kader 4–2 to book a spot in the quarter-finals.
