Second lady Nana Shettima has arrived in Addis Ababa to attend the 30th African First Ladies’ Assembly. Her arrival was announced in a statement on Thursday.

Mrs Shettima would represent the first lady, Remi Tinubu, at the three-day summit. The summit opens on February 15.

Mrs Shettima was accompanied by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who would be attending the 39th African Union Heads of State session on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

The summit will focus on advancing the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development’s strategic priorities and addressing key internal issues.

Mrs Shettima is expected to participate in meetings and discussions with other African first ladies during the event.

The assembly will also provide a platform to strengthen collaboration on women’s empowerment and sustainable development initiatives across the continent.

Participants are expected to share strategies to tackle climate challenges, conflicts and resilience-building for women and girls in Africa.

Her participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to continental cooperation and to advancing the rights of women and girls.
