Ondo: Gunmen kill traditional ruler, police launch manhunt

The police command in Ondo has confirmed the killing of Oba Kehinde Falodun, the Alagamo of Agamo, in Akure North LGA, by gunmen.
The command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed in a statement on Thursday morning.
Mr Jimoh said that the incident occurred on Wednesday evening when armed men invaded the monarch’s palace, forcibly took him from his compound and subsequently fled the scene.
“The Ondo state police command wishes to inform the general public of a tragic incident that occurred on 18th February, 2026, at about 7:10 p.m., involving the killing of Oba Kehinde Jacob Faledon, the traditional ruler of Ahungha Village, Agamo Area.
“Information received at the division at about 7:50 p.m. from a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, indicated that approximately six armed men stormed the residence of the monarch, forcibly took him from his compound, and subsequently fled the scene. The victim was later found a few metres away with gunshot wounds. He was confirmed dead at the scene,” he said.
Mr Abayomi added that following the receipt of the report, the divisional police officer, alongside command Tactical teams, promptly mobilised officers in collaboration with local security outfits, including Atuluse Security, local hunters, and Amotekun operatives, to comb adjoining bushes and surrounding areas in a bid to apprehend the perpetrators.
“The police command assures the public that no stone will be left unturned in bringing those responsible for this heinous act to justice. Members of the public with credible and actionable information are urged to report to the nearest police station or contact the command.”
Meanwhile, residents of Agamo and neighbouring settlements in Akure North LGA have been thrown into panic following the incident, with many fleeing their homes over fears of further attacks.
Community sources claimed the gunmen arrived on motorcycles and operated for several minutes without resistance before escaping through adjoining bush paths.
