Two young siblings have been burnt to death in a tragic fire incident at a family residence in Ondo State.

The victims; Queen Ohwo (6) and Everlyne Ohwo (4), were daughters of Mr and Mrs Ohwo Peter.

The incident occurred on Olaribigbe Street, Zon Area, Ode-Aye, in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the incident on Saturday, the state police spokesman, Jimoh Abayomi, said the severely burnt remains of the children had been evacuated to a health centre in Ode-Aye.

According to him, security operatives promptly visited the scene, took photographs, and carried out necessary documentation.

Mr Abayomi added that the state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, which occurred on March 18, 2026.

He explained that the parents of the deceased were in deep shock and trauma when officials arrived at the scene.

Mr Abayomi said in a statement, “Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have resulted from negligence during cooking activities.

“However, CP Adebowale Lawal has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the fire outbreak.

“The Divisional Police Officer in Ode-Aye has been directed to cordon off the scene, obtain statements from relevant witnesses, and collaborate with the Federal Fire Services to determine the extent and origin of the fire.”

The police command commiserated with the bereaved family and urged residents to be cautius in handling fire and cooking appliances.

It also advised the public to observe safety measures such as avoiding unattended cooking, keeping flammable materials away from heat sources, and ensuring children are not left alone around fire.

The police command, however, reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, calling on residents to remain safety-conscious at all times.
