2027: Constituents reject Ogun lawmaker’s fourth-term bid, demand zoning to Ifo LGA

Some constituents of Ibrahim Isiaka, the lawmaker representing Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency in Ogun State, Ibrahim Isiaka have rejected his bid for a fourth term in the House of Representatives in 2027.
Mr Isiaka, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and current Deputy Chief Whip in the lower legislative chamber, is seeking re-election despite growing opposition from his constituency.
The aggrieved constituents on Friday submitted a petition at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta, arguing that his continued stay in office contradicts the party’s principles of inclusion, equity, and justice.
Speaking during the peaceful protest, the spokesperson for the constituents, Femi Akala, called for adherence to an existing zoning arrangement between Ifo and Ewekoro local government areas.
Mr Akala urged the party to allocate the 2027 House of Representatives ticket to Ifo LGA in the interest of fairness and equity.
He noted that since 1999, Ewekoro LGA has held the seat for 16 years through former representatives, while Ifo LGA has had 12 years of representation, creating what he described as an imbalance that should be corrected.
He stated, “Since 1999, Ewekoro Local Government has held the seat for sixteen years through Hon. Bamidele Obadina (2007–2011) and Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka (2015–2027), while Ifo Local Government has represented the constituency for twelve years through Hon. Abayomi Collins (1999–2007) and Hon. Adekunle Adeyemi (2011–2015).”
Mr Akala further argued that the zoning aligns with Article 20 of the APC constitution, which promotes equitable distribution of political opportunities within the party.
According to him, Ifo’s larger voter base and consistent electoral support strengthen the case for the ticket to be zoned to the area.
He maintained that their demand was not confrontational but rooted in long-standing agreements and a desire to sustain unity within the constituency.
“Given Ifo’s larger voter population, greater number of polling units, and consistent electoral support for the party, many loyal members believe that the 2027 APC House of Representatives ticket should rightly be zoned to Ifo Local Government.
“Zoning the seat to Ifo would not diminish the partnership between the two local governments; rather, it would strengthen trust, reinforce party unity, and sustain long-term cohesion within the constituency.
“We submit this appeal with the utmost respect, mindful of your wisdom and leadership. The voices rising from Ifo are not voices of protest but voices of hope that the party’s long-standing principles of fairness and inclusiveness will guide its decisions as preparations for the 2027 elections progress,” Mr Akala said.
Efforts by Peoples Gazette to get a response from Mr Isiaka on Saturday were unsuccessful as calls and text messages sent to his mobile were neither answered nor replied.
An aide to the lawmaker, who was also contacted for reaction, told The Gazette that he could not speak on the agitation.
He directed our correspondent to his principal for response.
Mr Isiaka, who chairs the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, was appointed Deputy Chief Whip on February 4, 2025 by the House Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, following the death of Adewumi Onanuga, who previously held the position.
Mrs Onanuga died on January 15, 2025 after a brief illness.
