Makinde visits ex-power minister Adelabu over kidnap of sister, nephews
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Friday visited the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, following the abduction of his younger sister, Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, along with her twin sons, Peter and Paul.
A short clip posted on Facebook on Friday by the former minister’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, showed Mr Makinde greeting and entering the former minister’s residence.
“Brother, sorry, sorry. This is the situation we have found ourselves in,” the governor said as he walked into Mr Adelabu’s residence.
The ex-minister, who responded that “God will take control”, led the governor into his residence for a closed-door meeting.
Mr Makinde’s visit followed the abduction of the ex-minister’s sister and nephews on Wednesday, June 3.
Earlier, a statement by Mr Awogboro on behalf of the Adelabu family, following the incident, said Mrs John-Paul, aged 43, was allegedly abducted by suspected gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
She was reportedly on her way to drop her children off at school in Ibadan.
Mr Awogboro stated, “The abductors also forcefully took away her 12-year-old twin sons who were with her at the time of the incident. Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul is the youngest of the five children of Mrs Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu.”
“The family respectfully appeals to members of the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and refrain from circulating unverified information that may jeopardize ongoing security operations. We also solicit prayers and support from well-meaning Nigerians during this difficult period,” he said.
The states police command, in a statement, confirmed the incident, announcing that it had commenced an investigation into the incident.
“Investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice,” it said.
