Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has suspended ticket sales, levy collections and related charges imposed on intercity transport operators by government agents and security operatives in the state.

“Today, I approved the immediate suspension of the sale of tickets, collection of levies, and all related charges imposed on inter city transport operators by government agents and security operatives across Cross River State,” Mr Otu said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

The governor said the suspension of all public transit levies followed extensive consultations with the leadership of the Inter-City Drivers Association in the state.

He said the new policy was a proof of his commitment to reduce the burden on transport operators and the commuting public.

Mr Otu directed all relevant agencies and security outfits in the state to fully comply with the directive until further notice.

“In the coming days, my administration will convene a stakeholders’ meeting to develop a sustainable, fair, and mutually beneficial framework for the transport sector,” he said.

Mr Otu explained that his administration intends to create a business-friendly environment, support livelihoods and ensure that residents of the state enjoy the benefits of governance.

“Together, we will continue to build a state where enterprise thrives and prosperity is shared,” he stated.
