Nigerian Navy chief Idi Abbas has reaffirmed commitment to national development through strengthened civil-military relations and sustainable community development initiatives.

Mr Abbas gave the assurance on Tuesday at the inauguration of a renovated two-block classroom project at LGEA Primary School, Allor, in the Ankpa council area of Kogi.

Mr Abbas said the project reflected the navy’s resolve to complement its constitutional role of safeguarding the nation’s maritime domain by undertaking interventions that positively impact host communities.

He said the project, executed under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, aimed to strengthen civil-military cooperation while contributing to national development.

According to Mr Abbas, the Quick Impact Project, introduced in 2024, aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda by addressing critical community needs through sustainable interventions.

“The Nigerian Navy remains committed to initiatives that improve the well-being of citizens and foster cordial relationships between the military and the communities we serve,” he said.

The project comprised a renovated two-block classroom, a new toilet facility, an upgraded playground, teaching aids, desks, chairs and sports equipment.

Mr Abbas commended Sunday Yahaya, a navy officer and an indigene of Allor, for facilitating the intervention. He urged the community to protect the facilities and continue supporting security agencies in tackling security challenges.

Mr Yahaya said the project was conceived to bridge gaps in educational infrastructure and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning. He expressed satisfaction that the intervention had already led to increased enrolment at the school and appealed to residents to take ownership of the facilities by properly maintaining them.

The project manager, Robert Ogah, said the intervention followed a needs assessment conducted in April 2026.

Mr Ogah said the project involved the renovation of classrooms, the replacement of roofs and ceilings, the rehabilitation of floors, doors, and windows, the construction of a toilet facility, and the upgrading of the school playground.

Christiana Atodo, a teacher at the school, expressed appreciation to the navy for transforming the learning environment. She described the intervention as a major boost to teaching and learning, as well as to pupils’ academic development.
